Hit-Run Victim Given Warning For Unsafely Crossing Roadway In Bridgeport, Police Say

A teen who was struck by a hit-and-driver was given a verbal warning for unsafe use of a highway in Bridgeport, police said.

The incident took place around 6:45 p.m., Wednesday, July 24, when officers were dispatched to the area of North Avenue and Park Avenue on a report of a pedestrian struck, said Terron Jones, spokesman for the Bridgeport Police.

When police arrived on the scene they were told the victim, a juvenile, had been transported by AMR to Bridgeport Hospital for minor injuries and that the vehicle had fled the area, Jones said.

Officers  Bridgeport Fire officials on the scene told officers that a witness on the scene saw the vehicle strike the teen and then leave the scene. The witness then followed the vehicle until it pulled into a parking lot on Park Avenue, police said.

The driver told the witness that he must have hit the teen with his driver’s side mirror and that he was unaware that he struck anyone, Jones said.

The vehicle sustained minor damage to the driver’s side mirror. The driver was given a service complaint ticket.

Officers later performed a follow up to Bridgeport Hospital to meet with the victim. Officers met with the parents and were advised that the teen was crossing the street mid-block coming from a convenience store. The victim then continued across traffic at which point he was struck by the vehicle, police said
